In the final seconds, unbridled joy erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and provided the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Glaring Contrast in Experience

On the City bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with an unparalleled CV for elite clubs Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a former coach at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and arrived to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, headlined by Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed Mission: Impossible.
